Skytrain – Expo Line (1981 – 1986) Edward’s role in this project included development of system wide functional design standards, design of 2 elevated neighborhood stations, development of the ‘Kit of Parts’ approach to Station Architecture along with the application of the approach to all of the suburban stations.

City of Vancouver – Comprehensive Development Guidelines (1987 – 1988) Under contract to the City of Vancouver, Edward prepared draft CD1 by-laws with design guidelines for 21 public and privately owned sites adjacent to the Expo Line transit system. Each site was analysed and key issues were identified. The resulting design guidelines provided a framework for “approvable” developments on each site. This work provided direction to would be developers and reduced some of the risk associated with developing housing adjacent to the transit line.

Skytrain – Millennium Line – Planning and Urban Design (1998 – 1999) Edward’s role included leading the Planning and Urban Design Team responsible for determining the route, alignment and station locations within the City of Vancouver, which were reviewed with the public through an extensive consultation process.

Skytrain – Millennium Line – Overall System Design (1999 – 2002) Acting as the client’s in-house senior consultant Edward advised on the development and integration of system wide components including station furniture, signage and information systems and safety equipment. A significant aspect of the work included liaison with the operating company to ensure their operational considerations were addressed and that architectural sub-systems in the new stations related to the existing line.

Orange County LRT – As a project sub-consultant, Edward was responsible for alignment planning, guideway integration and station location studies for the elevated portion of the line along Bristol Street.

Seattle Monorail Project – As a project sub-consultant, Edward developed alignment, station and guideway design principles and guidelines for use by other consultant teams and for inclusion in the project’s Request for Proposals to the Design Build Maintain and Operate contractors. He was also responsible for the design of the initial phases of the public consultation programme including preparation of the presentation material.

Canada Line – As a senior consultant to Canada Line Rapid Transit Ltd, Edward provided advice on station design requirements during the procurement phase of the project. After the award of the concession agreement to Intransit BC, he provided advice to the concessionaire on station design, integration with adjacent development, and provided oversight on the design development of stations for the owner. These roles included extensive involvement with the public consultation programme.
